National Voluntary Blood Donation Day – October 1, 2025

On October 1st, India celebrates National Voluntary Blood Donation Day, a tribute to the countless individuals who donate blood selflessly to save lives. This day, initiated by the Indian Society of Blood Transfusion and Immunohematology (ISBTI) in 1975, aims to promote voluntary, non-remunerated blood donation and ensure a safe and sufficient blood supply across the country.

2025 Theme: “Give blood, give hope: together we save lives”

This year’s global theme by the World Health Organization (WHO) highlights the power of collective action and compassion. Every unit of donated blood carries hope — for trauma victims, surgical patients, mothers in childbirth, and children battling cancer or anemia.

Ensuring Safety with ICCBBA's ISBT 128 Standard

To maintain the highest standards of safety and traceability, ICCBBA is actively engaging with stakeholders in blood transfusion on using the ISBT 128 Standard, a global standard for the identification, labeling, and information transfer of human blood, cells, tissues, and organs.

  • ISBT 128 ensures accurate tracking of blood components from donor to recipient.

  • It reduces errors in transfusion and enhances patient safety.

  • It supports international interoperability, crucial for rare blood types and cross-border collaborations.

A Message to All Indians

On this special day, let us salute the spirit of voluntary donors and encourage more people to join this life-saving mission. Whether you're a first-time donor or a regular donor, your act of kindness makes a difference.

Best wishes to everyone in India on National Voluntary Blood Donation Day 2025!

Let’s give blood, give hope — and save lives, together.
